I was lucky enough to have traveled the entire Super DIRTcar Car Modified Series tour for more than a dozen years, first with driver Frank Cozze and then renowned crew chief Billy Taylor and driver Doug Hoffman. I could write a book about what I’ve seen over the past four decades but probably wouldn’t have many talking to me after it was published. In total I have been writing for 40 years between this column and the racing trade papers. Hertha Beberwyk and Buffy Swanson were responsible for me writing in the first place - very thankful to both of them for the encouragement way back when. The column covered auto racing in the Capital District area - Albany-Saratoga, Fonda and Lebanon Valley speedways. I took this position right after my husband Jeff, a former racer at Lebanon Valley Speedway, died of cancer. This will be my last racing column for the Albany Times Union. “These guys liked hanging a wheel over it and now they can do what they want.”Ĭommander has a lot of people barking at him - telling him that shortening the speedway would be the way to go to strengthen car counts and offer constant ‘edge of the seat racing’ but Commander doesn’t see it that way.
“We’ve already completed it in turns one and two,” said Commander. The remaining work will be completed soon. According to Commander, his team has already completed half of the project.
